Do officers in the army (whos mos is infantry) actually fight? I'm talking specifically 2nd LT. Or do they just basically sit on the side line and tell the enlisted soldiers what to do and just carry a weapon just in case?

  1. You are kidding right!  How does a leader know how to lead if they never served on the front line (in the trenches so to speak).  It doesn't matter what service you are in, an officer's progression always includes several stints leading the troops at the division or unit level.

  2. Yes, infantry lieutenants leading a platoon of infantryman will very much fight.  Their jobs are primarily to lead the direction of the fight, but they themselves do fight as well.

  3. Hey, An officer leads his men by example. He is the first to do anything he wants to be done. Never an officer sits on the sideline. An officer is the first one to step down the Battle Field and the last to leave it.

Well, watch the movie-"We Were Soldiers". May be u will get some ideas of what an offr does.

  4. yes they do fight, they basically quarterback their squad while on the field and do get involved in the fight.
