League one side Leicester City have officially confirmed the signing of Liverpool’s out of favour fullback, Paul Konchesky.
The English defender has joined the Foxes for a reported transfer fee of £1.5 million and has signed a three-year contract.
Paul Konchesky was signed from Fulham last summer by then-manager, Roy Hodgson. The former West Ham United man started his career at Liverpool impressively and went on to establish himself in Hogdson’s starting eleven.
However, Konchesky’s impressive run only lasted three months. The former Fulham man was benched for a few matches due to his below par performances.
After the appointment of Kenny Dalglish as Liverpool manager, the former Fulham full back was loaned to Nottingham Forest in the January 2011 transfer window.
The 30-year-old full back was being heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool since the start of the summer transfer window.
Leicester City manager, Sven Eriksson, believes that Konchesky is a very big signing for his ambitious League one side. The 30-year-old has played for West Ham United, Fulham and Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League and Eriksson believes that Konchesky’s
Premier League experience will be very beneficial to his team.
Eriksson told Leicester City’s official website, "Paul has been a Premier League player year in and year out throughout his career so he represents a very big signing for us.
Leicester City have been very active in the current transfer market as the midlands club are aiming for Barclays Premier League promotion. Eriksson revealed that Konchesky wanted to join Leicester.
“He wanted to come to Leicester City and it means a lot that proven, established top flight footballers want to be part of what we are building here.”
“I know Paul very well as a player and as a person and he will be a top class addition to our squad,” concluded Eriksson.
The 30-year-old will join the Foxes on their pre-season tour next week.
