Reports from Dutch and Italian media confirm that Maarten Stekelenburg has joined AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 from Ajax Amsterdam after the two sides agreed on a transfer fee of 6.3 million Euros. The Dutch custodian has penned down a lucrative contract with the Giallorossi
that will see him earn 2.7 million Euros per annum until the summer of 2015.
The 28-year-old is a product of the Amsterdammers renowned youth academy and started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the 2002/03 season. Since the 2005/06 campaign, Stekelenburg has remained the number one choice between the posts at Ajax.
The highly-rated goalkeeper remained heavily linked with a host of elite European clubs in the ongoing summer transfer market, but Roma were the favourites to land his signature ahead of the new season.
After penning down a deal with the Giallorossi, the 28-year-old was unable to hide his happiness and revealed that every facility at Stadio Olimpico is perfect.
“Finally the deal is done. I am much relieved. This club is breathing football in all aspects. I did not have time yet to see the stadium, but i have already seen the training complex, which looks good. All facilities are there, everything is beautiful”,
Stekelenburg said while talking to the journalists.
Reports indicate that the Amsterdam giants will receive an additional 1 million Euros should La Maggica sell Stekelenburg or renew his ongoing contract. Furthermore, the deal also guarantees the Amsterdammers 500,000 Euros for every time the Giallorossi
book a UEFA Champions League berth from 2013 to 2016.
The Serie A outfit would also be relieved after acquiring the services of the 28-year-old as La Maggica were desperately looking for a new goalkeeper following Alexander Doni’s move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 FC earlier in the ongoing summer transfer market.
