Official: Vitesse Arnhem part company with Albert Ferrer – Dutch Eredivisie news
Reports from GelreDome Stadion confirm that Vitesse Arnhem have parted company with their manager Albert Ferrer. The 41-year-old tactician was appointed as head coach in October 2010 to replace Theo Bos. With Vitesse narrowly avoiding relegation in the recently
concluded season, Ferrer’s departure from GelreDome Stadion was imminent.
Merab Jordania, the former Georgian footballer and now a businessman, took over the financially troubled outfit in August 2010. The club was expected to undergo immense changes. Ferrer’s appointment, however, was one surprising move as the Spanish trainer
had no prior coaching experience.
The Spaniard was confident of guiding the Arnhem outfit to a respectable finish by the end of 2010/11 season. However, it was not to be, as Vitesse finished 15th in the league table. The Spanish trainer’s contract was due to end in the coming
weeks and the Vitesse management were reluctant to renew his contract.
Ted van Leeuwen, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vitesse-c40905 technical director, revealed that his side and Ferrer have mutually agreed upon parting company.
“We have jointly decided to end the cooperation. It’s always disappointing when a process in which a lot of effort has been put is not completed, both the club and the coach”, Leeuwen was quoted as saying to the media.
Frank van der Struijk, the central defender, revealed that it was not a surprising decision after his side struggled to perform in the 2010/11 season. The 26-year-old hopes that his side appoints an experienced trainer this time around.
“It comes as no surprise. They have waited a long time yet to announce this decision. We have a young squad that demands an experienced coach”, Struijk said while talking to the media.
The Vitesse management will now have to search for a coach who would guide their side to a respectable finish in the upcoming season. Reports suggest that the management has short-listed a few names including Louis van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard.
It remains to be seen whether Jordania’s mammoth investment turns the Arnhem outfit into a force to be reckoned with in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 or they continue struggling to compete successfully in the Dutch top tier.
