Official protest filed by Marco Antonio ‘Veneno’ Rubio with the WBC – Boxing news
Marco Antonio ‘Veneno’ Rubio filed an official protest with the WBC on February 17, 2012, for the breach of WBC Rules on February 4, 2012, during his bout with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
The bout, which was for the middleweight world championship, had several irregularities in relation to the drug testing laws and safety checks implied by the WBC. The protest also covers irregularities with ringside matters.
Marco Antonio has requested to annul the bout since it was not carried on as per the rules and regulations of the WBC. Marco’s protest includes the issues that were put up by Chavez after the bout during the post-bout weigh-in session.
According to Marco, Chavez and others relied on a police report that was 2 weeks old from Los Angeles, which stated Chavez’s weight at 175 lbs. Moreover, the submitted report also states that just a day before the bout Chavez’s weight was noted at 159.5
lbs, but at the day of the bout he bulked up to 181 pounds. In other words, Marco has hinted towards Chavez using drugs to build up strength and muscle mass.
It should be noted here that Chavez has a history of consuming drugs that are prohibited by the WBC. As per the WBC anti-doping rules, there is a list of drugs which is prohibited and after and before every bout fighters are tested for these drugs.
However, on February 4, according to Marco, the WBC or the Texas Department of Combative Sports attempted no tests. Not only did Marco blame Chavez, he went onto say that after the irregularities exhibited on February 4, many insiders are now suspicious
of WBC’s standard and anti-doping program.
New York attorney Mr. Richard Dolan is representing Marco Rubio. As of now, according to WBC rules, Marco has to file his protest to Jose Sulaiman, WBC president. Marco can then go for mediation. If mediation fails to resolve the issue then Marco will get
an impartial hearing in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
By now, no updates have been reported by Chavez or his camp. If Chavez fails to justify skipping the post-fight weigh-in session then probably the bout will be annulled.
