Official receipts vs. Acknowledgment receipt?

We bought a piece of land and the seller cannot give us his official receipt because he is just a casual seller he is not actually directly engaged in selling real properties. however, he has a restaurant business and he propose to use his official receipt from that business for our payment.

i accepted his proposal for as long as the details of payment shall be reflected in that O.R. but my boss said an acknowledgment receipt is more practical or credible over that official receipt from a different business.

who's right? please help.

  1. As to not confuse other people that may review the transaction, stick to the 2 parties that are involved in the transaction that is the seller & you. Documentation surrounding the transaction should also comes from that 2 parties. Don't use a document/ stationery with 3rd party letterhead. If someone else reviewed the documents 3 years from now for instance, they won't have any idea what this restaurant memo/ receipt got to do with a purchase of land. Does the land has the restaurant on top of it???

Better use a plain paper that reads acknowledgment receipt signed by the seller.
