Officials happy about successful inauguration of LPGA Symetra Tour at Sara Bay Classic
Zayra Calderon, Chief Executive Officer of the LPGA Symetra Tour, has said that the successful conclusion of the Sara Bay Classic will make it easier for the officials to come up with a more solid plan for the Tour next year.
Sara Bay Classic is the inaugural tournament of the LPGA Symetra Tour and was played from April 20-22, at Sara Bay Country Club, in Southern Manatee Country.
Speaking at the end of the tournament, Calderon said that the officials are happy about organising an event that players had been wishing to play for a long time. He said that the event went well, with several key players in the roster.
Esther Choe grabbed the title of the inaugural event. The winner said that she is thrilled to win the first edition of the prestigious tournament, and looks forward to an even better opportunity coming up in the second event next year.
Choe played amazingly well in the last round of the event. She was sharing a lead with Jacqui Concolino at the end of the second last round.
She said that she had been troubled about not working up to her potential, which took a serious toll on her performance.
However, she pointed out that due to hard training on the practice range, she has been able to improve her putting to a greater extent.
“I just had a few rough years. But took some time off, regrouped and got it together,” the 22-year-old star said. Choe attributed her victory to consistency and rigorous practice.
Officials said that despite the fact that the weather conditions were not so favourable, Choe maintained her momentum on most of the holes she played.
The final round featured plenty of challenges for the winner. However, she held her nerve and carded a decent 75.
With strong winds sweeping the course through most of the concluding day, Choe kept the pressure high on her rivals.
“It was windy, and I had not much feel for the greens (Sunday) at all," said Concolino, who stood at the fourth spot.
“I should have birdied nine every day. Not to birdie nine (Sunday), would have given me a two or three-stroke advantage going into the back nine,” she added.
