Officials hope Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia to set a benchmark in women's golf
Group Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of Sime Darby Property, Dato’ Wahab Maskan, has said that the officials are hopeful that the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 is going to boost
the image women’s golf in the world.
Speaking to the media about the upcoming edition of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, which is set to start from October 11-14 at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, Maskan said that the tournament
is sure to expand women’s golf in Malaysia and that is why the officials took keen interest in making all the necessary arrangements for the championship.
“We are indeed honoured to be involved with this tournament for the third year running. The Sime Darby LPGA has without doubt set a benchmark in the golf arena both regionally and internationally,”
Sime Darby (SD) Managing Director said.
Maskan went on to say that keeping in mind the previous editions of the tournament they successfully staged, this year’s event is set to attract a large number of spectators.
He said that the tournament has plenty of added benefits, as it is designed to not just bolster golf and provide entertainment, but the SD group is also going to reap rewards in terms of its
global presence.
“We certainly look forward to another very successful LPGA event and hope that our efforts will ensure that the sport of golf continues to grow across Asia for years to come. The programme
is aligned to this objective and will strengthen SD Group's intent to contribute to the development of sports in Malaysia and to put Malaysia on the map of world events,” Maskan stated.
LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Commissioner, Mike Whan, who has revived the Tour in recent years, also heaped praise on SD officials for staging yet another edition of the tournament.
Whan extended special thanks to the SD Berhad for its efforts for women’s golf, saying the commitment to the event will not only prop up the LPGA Tour, but will also help the sport find foothold
in Malaysia.
The Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 is going to feature several local contenders and almost all the top-ranked LPGA stars, including defending champion Na Yeon Choi.
