Offsetting the effects of hydromorphone?

Question

I know someone who is currently being administered hydromorphone as part of their cancer treatment. I have looked up the side effects of the drug and found she is experiencing most of the usual ones; in particular, constipation. As she has bowel cancer, constipation is a side effect she can do without. Can anyone suggest what she can do to offset the effects of this drug. Naturally I would discuss any suggestions with the nurses monitoring her health.
