Offshore ticket sales encourage Rugby World Cup organisers - Rugby News
The recent surge in offshore ticket sales for Rugby World Cup 2011 has boosted the confidence of the organisers and they belive they can achieve the ticket sale target for the forthcoming event in New Zealand. New Zealand Rugby Union revealed on August 9
that 87 percent of the target has been met and the rest is expected to be achieved before the end of the scheduled date. Earlier, World Cup organisers were concerned they would fall short of ticket sales due to the lower interest of foreigners in the evnet.
New Zealand Rugby Union told the media that a total of $234 million revenue has been collected from the ticket sales and even more is expected as foreigners are showing great interest in visiting All Blacks soil. The union has witnessed a huge jump in ticket
buying by offshore supporters within a short span of just one week. According to the facts and figure revealed by World Cup organisers, tickets worth $1 million have been sold since last Saturday.
Rugby World Cup organisers further told the media that union was expecting 85,000 foreigners to visit their country to catch the live action of the Webb Ellis Trophy before the start of ticket sales. However, they broke the news that 10,000 more visitors
are expected step on All Blacks soil during global contests.
Talking to media, New Zealand Rugby Union Chief Executive, Martin Snedden, said that a huge amount of spectators is expected to come to support their team during the World Cup. He added that, “This is tremendous news and a real sign of just how big Rugby
World Cup 2011 will be for our country. The upsurge in support from overseas fans is a strong sign of confidence in our ability to host the biggest sporting event New Zealand has ever held.”
Snedden further said that, “We are expecting around 25,000 fans from the UK and Ireland and another 10,000 from France. It's also terrific to see good numbers coming from the Americas, and that USA, Canada and Argentina will be well supported. Our estimates
suggest 10,000 from these countries.”
Rugby World Cup 2011 is only one month away from kicking off as the opening match will be played on September 9.
