Oft-Injured Greg Oden faces yet another setback - NBA Update
The 23 years old Portland Trail Blazers centre Greg Oden has everything in his arsenal that can make him an elite player. The only barrier that can stop him from reaching there is his fitness.
He has a giant frame and to support it, he needs strong legs. Unfortunately, he has been facing injury problems- specifically knee injuries, since the start of his career and because of that he missed most of the games in his first
two years.
He underwent a knee surgery last year and it looked like, he will come into this season fully fit. However, the 7 ft faced yet another setback while rehabilitating and will probably be missing the start of this season.
Not only will he be missing few games, but his $ 8.9 million contract, which his agent yesterday revealed is also being restructured by the team.
Although, the new deal probably will be missing few zeroes but he should consider himself fortunate that Portland, knowing his physical fitness, still opted to sign a contract with him as Portland General Manager Chad Buchanan
added
"We're hopeful that Greg can get back out on the court this year -- maybe not quite as optimistic as we were before -- but we feel like Greg Oden is worth that risk for one more year,"
Oden, naturally is disappointed at the prospect of missing few games but expressed his delight over the team’s faith in him. He added
"I'm obviously disappointed with the setback, but I'm as determined as ever to return to the court. I appreciate the support of the Trail Blazers and our fans and that they continue to stand behind me”
Odom was the first pick of the 2007 draft, after he performed exceptionally well at the college level. And in his first two years at the big stage- NBA, he proved that all the hype surrounding him was justified. Despite the injuries,
he was a threat in the court and immediately made an impression.
It’s too early to predict, when will he be making a comeback this season, but whenever he will, he will definitely give it all to cover up for his injuries.
