Oghill Dash clinches victory in the 380m Grade A4 race
Oghill Dash clinched victory in the 380 metres Grade A4 greyhound race at Crayford on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. The cash prize for winning the event was £118.
The triumphant dog has been doing a decent job over the past few months, but needed to win in order to earn the confidence of the bookmakers. He was not the favourite for this race and was given a starting price of 7 to 2.
Despite that, Oghill Dash managed to run very well. He did not have an easy win at all, as there was some stiff competition at the top of the order.
A. C. B. Green’s trained dog completed the total distance in 24.02 seconds, after breaking in from trap number six. He was crowded at the start, but displayed excellent speed through the middle stages of the race.
The race winner is the son of Killahan Phanter, out of Roeview Signal, and was born in September, 2009.
Second place went to Newlawn Sweep, who was one of the least expected greyhounds to make an impression. He had a starting price of 9 to 2 and his trainer, P. J. Cusack, would have been extremely happy with the outcome of the race.
The oldest participant in the event fell short of victory by just 0.04 seconds in the end. He covered the total distance in 24.06 seconds, after popping out from trap number one.
The runner up greyhound is the son of Tucks Mein, out of Newlawn Holly and was born in September, 2005.
Joint favourite to win the race, Future Vote, was unable to match the speed of the top two dogs. He took third place by a short head’s distance in the end, after entering from trap number three.
The J. M. Carter trained dog is the son of Scarty Lad out of Pookies Future and was born in May 2009.
Fourth place went to Reem Star, another greyhound trained by Green. She was given a starting price of 7 to 1 and covered the distance in 24.19 seconds. She is the daughter of Hades Rocket out of All Things Equal, and was born in October, 2009.
The final two places were taken by Puffanomic and Max Hero. The latter was the joint favourite to win, but failed to make an impression.
Overall, the race was a good one, but the joint favourite greyhounds turned out to be a big disappointment for everyone.
