Ok so we are doing this HUGE group project and my group has 4 people. We have been working on it for about a week now and one person hasn't done a thing. We told the teacher and she just asked her to work, but she didn't work at all. She has missed 3 due dates for her part of the project. She was sick on Monday, but she had the whole weekend to do this project. We were going to meet tomorrow, but I just found out she won't be there because she is hanging out with another friend. She is my friend, but she isn't working. What can I do?

And the project is due in two weeks, but we want to work on our presentation for one week. We did make a calender and everyone signed agreeing to it.

And I'm in 8th grade.

  1. Write down the times you have all been together working on the project, who has been there and who has not.  Include this with the project when you turn it in, as well as the copy of the contract you all signed.  Let the teacher know that you're having trouble with one member of the group not doing their part and see what she suggests.  Will leaving out her part affect the outcome of the entire project?  Each give the part of the presentation that you are responsible for.  She may be a creative type that works in a different way from everyone else, but still gets good results.  But that doesn't excuse the rudeness of blowing off scheduled work dates.

  2. I am not a big fan of group projects because I remember my daughters' frustration working with people who would not put in any honest effort  As a group you could notify this girl at school that if she has not submitted at least her rough work by a set  date you will have no choice to speak to the teacher.Ask the teacher for her advice on this situation. Let her know that she signed a "contract" with the group to meet her responsibilities on this project. As a group each of you continue your own parts of the project.Make sure you have someone to do the opening and closing of your presentation. On the day of the presentation  each of you get up and announce what part of the presentation each person is responsible for. Make sure someone in your group presents the opening and the conclusion. There may be an awkward silence when the girl has no information to present  on her topic. When it comes time for questions and answers make sure only the slacker answers those questions on her area of resposibility..It will become apparent to everyone she did not do her share of the work and hopeful she will get the mark she deserves.

  3. this is why i hate group projects. i am in 7th grade and we have them all the time

  4. That happened to me to and even though your friends its your grade and they need to understand that. If they wont do any of it kick them out or talk to your teacher, i know you'll feel like your selling them out but your grade is important to you and if its not important to them they shouldnt be in the group.

  5. Ask teacher to give her 0 on this project.

  6. Go talk to your teacher and ask for her to get no mark, since she wouldn't work.

If she complains, then she's a hypocrite.

  7. Go to the teacher; lay it on the line. The three of you will complete and present the project, but since the other girl has not contributed she will not be taking part in the presentation and if she gets a grade at all, your parents will be complaining to the head and to the governors.

Don't get angry or upset. Stay calm and polite, but be firm and clear about it.
