Oh and finally, what kind of oil should you use when "breaking in" an engine for it's first time starting?

First time starting in a while. About ready to go let it idle for the first time in a couple of years. Its a Chevelle that I bought and i have replaced some parts on it. just wanna get it back going. it says it takes 10w-30 but i have read that if you are going to break it in, use a lower viscosity oil for atleast 500 miles and then drain it out and then begin using the oil it is designed for. What kind should i use for my chevelle? it says 10W-30 but i wanna use lower viscosity oil so it can flow easier to different parts on the engine and lubricate them to ensure proper performance and knowing that it will do its job. thanks

  1. You don't need any special oil. The 10W30 is fine. What you should do, with an engine that has sat for two years without being run, Is pull the distributor and the valve covers, then use a drill motor to turn the oil pump drive shaft until oil is flowing freely to ALL the valve rockers. After sitting that long every rotating part is dry and devoid of lubrication. Starting it in that condition will damage the bearings and lead to an early engine failure.

  2. 5w30... it really dosent matter

  3. Get some Autozone 10w30.
