Now, the Malkin rumors have been flying like crazy. At first I refused to believe any of them, but I've been thinking......I can actually see something like that possibly happening......The more articles I read the more of a possibility it seems.....

......Now I don't want to ever believe it, but do you think it could be a possible choice for the Penguins?

  1. I love all of these rumors.  It's great to see Pittsburgh going through this.  They tanked for a few years so they could get all these high draft picks and got rid of all their high priced veterans to do it.  Now they are fighting the same economics.  The NHL wanted the Penguins to be the next dynasty, but that ain't gonna happen.  If you be successful you should look at a successful team like the Detroit Red Wings.  they have many superstars, but they sign guys like Osgood who WANT to play for them.  He was 34 seconds away from winning a Conn Smythe trophy and he is making less than $1.5 million/year for the next three years.  Also this year I believe he made less than a million.  The Wings pay their superstars the way they should be payed, like Datsyuk, Lidstrom and soon to be Zetterberg... and give the support players good middle range salaries.  NO over priced talent here.

Pittsburgh should never have traded away players like Christensen, Armstrong, and Esposito.  These are depth guys that make a difference in the playoffs.

Now if they sign Hossa and Fleury, and even if they sign Malkin, they will be extremely top heavy.  They would for sure lose Malone.  Hockey is the ultimate team sport.  Three super stars with a bunch of hacks is not going to win you a championship in this NHL.  You still need a supporting cast.

The Penguins franchise is now reaping what they have sown.

Also remember... I'm sure Ray Shero would rather have Malkin than Cammaleri and a #2 pick... BUT this is about economics NOT player quality.

  2. What is going to happen will happen.  Don't drive yourself crazy with these rumors.  Remember, they are just rumors.

  3. no way

malkin is as good as crosby

if crosby played the whole season, and stayed at the same amount of points per game when he wasn't hurt, he would have had 5 more points than malkin

they wouldn't do that for a 2nd pick,    malkin is a first round pick and tons more

Malkin is not a rookie anymore, and now worth more than steven stamkos (projected number one pick)

that would be a horrible trade

they wouldn't do that would they?

  4. Clearly it could go either way (i live in the burgh by the way).  But Malkin also said he is willing to take a pay cut, a.k.a hometown discount.  So we will see, but i doubt it, keep Malkin.  Why would they need a very high draft pick??? They have enough strength!!! THEY MADE THE PLAYOFFS, and WERE RUNNER-UPS!! I would'nt worry,, there really isnt a good reason to make that trade.

  5. The Rumors you hear are probalby contingency plans. The Cap will go up again, And they'll have room. You'll have them both back again. Malkin will probably take a discount like Crosby.

NHL Boy, they can't trade Hossa. He's a UFA on july 1, and nobody's going to trade for his rights because he will test the waters if he doesn't resign with the pens.

  6. Yea you never know, some things come out of the blue. Then they can by sadly true.

  7. Nope, i will absolutely not believe that Malkin will leave. The pens have too much to worry about right now - plus his contract isn't up for another season...

  8. Ive pretty much felt the same way about these rumours.  At first I was thinking "theres no way this is going to happen.  Where do people come up with this c**p".  The more I hear about it and the more I think about, the more I could see it happening.  IF, and thats a big if, they can sign Hossa to that seven year, $50 million  contract, I could see them making a trade.  I dont think they could really afford to keep Malkin and Hossa.  Malkin will likely want more money than Hossa so if they decided to keep Malkin and let Hossa go, they would have Malkin, a higher payroll, and thats about it.  On the other hand, if they keep Hossa and trade Malkin, they will still have their 2nd go to guy after Crosby, more cap space, plus the huge assets they aquire through the Malkin deal.  I could easily understand why the Pens would choose this path.

Add:  Really, what would you rather have:

    A)  Malkin at $8-$9 million a year

    B)  Hossa at $7 million a year plus two 1st round picks and 2 really good prospects, which is what Im guessing they could get in a Malking deal..

  9. i know..i've been hearing that too but i was talking to my mom about that & she's like do you really think they will trade malkin. but who knows.

ya i dont believe rumors usually, i guess we'll believe it when we see it..i just dont get why they would trade to the kings..they aren't even good & i know this cuz me being a sharks fan & they are in the same division as the sharks.

  10. Hey it could put the Kings back on the map....Anything is possible we have seen some outlandish trades in the past.

That is part of being a good GM on both sides...Not being afraid to ask for something. Because sometimes...you might get what you asked for.

  11. I've heard many rumors too. They could trade Evgeni Malkin for some much needed high draft picks but I'd prefer trading Marian Hossa though. Both great players but Malkin is still young.

It'll be interesting to see what happens..
