Oh look, another Twilight question!?

But relax. I'm an adult. I don't want to discuss the finer points of Bella's relationship with Whosit.

I'm curious - after seeing soooo darned much about this book/series I'm wondering if it's worthwhile for an adult to read. I love paranormal romances. I've read and adored Harry Potter.

So should I give this one a try? Or will it bore the pants off me?

Is there any s*x? I'm guessing not but one can hope.

  1. I think you should. Why not give it a try? It is a paranormal relationship. There isn't any s*x... there's a tin bit of risque-ness in the third book, the fourth book it's just alluded to. It's not amazingly written, but it has a very interesting plot and the characters are great. If you do read them, may I recommend stopping at book three? Breaking Dawn was an epic fail :D

But, anyway: my final decision: it's really up to you. I thought the books were great, a good read. :)

  2. You might as well give it a try. What do you have to lose?

  3. Hmm...well it's worth a read. I read them all, and I didn't think they were the best books in the world. They were good enough to read. The story is interesting. And no, there's no s*x. Which bothered me, because I was really hoping for a s*x scene. Stephanie Meyer could have totally blown our pants off with an amazing one, but she didn't. Oh well.

  4. I am 48 and read it out of curiosity.  If you want to be utterly bored then its a great read!  Its got no story line or good plots and the descriptions are the same all the way through.  Unfortunately you have to read them all to actually believe such drivel could get printed!

That just my personal thoughts on it but you may like it!

  5. You should totally read it

I told my mom about twilight and now shes addicted to the freaking book lol..she also ready harry potter and liked it and lord of the rings..anyways shes 40 so ya if u love paranormal romances like her then u should tatolly read it

    have fun!

  6. I just started reading the saga....I was also hesitant to read them since they are towards a younger audience supposedly (teenagers mostly) and I'm 27 but like you I LOVE the harry potter books.  I'm not too familiar with the paranormal romances but I like books with good plots and I also like romances..the ones that are not too sappy & are not filled with just s*x

You should give them a try....i was not bored at all & honestly you'll find youself wanting an Edward of your own.

From what others have told me about the books that later there is s*x in the last book but in the other books there's a lot of sexual frustration which to me is more intertaining to read about then the "act"

    hope this helps

  7. Im 23 and i enjoyed...no s*x but a whole lot of SEXUAL TENSION!

  8. Yeah! Give it a try, it wont hurt! My mum's reading it at the moment!

BUT.. Do not read the last book! Seriously, it ruins the whole series!

  9. Sorry, I haven't read these yet.  Have you read the Southern Vampire series, beginning with Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris?    Vampires, s*x, excellent wit, and s*x.  Woo hoo!

  10. I'm far younger than you are, I'm 16 and I think it's even too pathetic for me to read. I love Harry Potter, and I take it as an insult when Twilight is compared to Harry Potter, as Twilight is simply a cliche, a love story written so horribly you'd think a subplot in any other book is more interesting than it's MAIN plot. I'm not one of these haters just because it has silly fangirls, no I hate Twilight because it's not worth reading; and I read all of the books, all four of them. They're a disgrace to my honourable bookshelf, I'm embarrassed that I ever owned them, let alone read them..

If you want to waste money, buy the books. I happily sold mine, or I would've given them to you, with extra money too! I'd pay you to take them.

  11. I read the first, Twilight, out of curiosity.  Did I love it?  No.  Did I hate it?  No.  Totally unremarkable from my perspective.  Paranormal romance is my favorite genre of romance (if it helps you any to know this).  I didn't find it original, nor was the author able to "hook" me with her characters.  I skipped the two books in the middle and went straight for the ending, which was predictable, as I had suspected it would be.  I'd rather spend my time reading Nalini Singh's latest in her Psy/Changeling series, which is out already. *shrug*

No s*x whatsoever.  If you like your paranormals spicy i.e. Lynn Viehl or Kresley Cole, this most definitely is NOT it.

Anyway, get a copy (or better yet, get it from your library) and decide for yourself.

  12. Well, I'm still under 30, but I've got a degree (ok, it's an AS, but still...) I'm married, got a job, the whole "adult" works. :)

I really enjoyed the books. I got into them because I saw the question repeated over and over on this site and got curious.

The author isn't the best writer. Her dialogs are immature, her characters are kind of flat, and the plot is sorely lacking. But she's really good at portraying emotions, and I think it's that part of it that really draws people in. It makes me be able to empathize, not just sympathize, with what Bella is going through.

There is no s*x. But there are some nicely described kisses. They're better than some of the s*x scenes I've read in other books.

I think you should give it a try. It's an easy read, and at least you'll be able to know what all the fuss is about and whether you like it or not. (it's always better to have done more things than avoid them). I can't say for sure if YOU will be bored with it, but I certainly wasn't.

**I don't think I would ever recommend for someone not to read a book.  Even Madame Bovary, which I absolutely hated.**

  13. It's worth reading. I don't think you will like it as much as Harry Potter - the characters are pretty flat and the plot is both convoluted and yet very little happens.

The first book, "Twilight," is well done. But the later books get thinner and thinner in terms of plot and character development.

But read them yourself and make up your own mind. I can see their flaws, but I still found them to be perfect for a weekend of guilty pleasure reading.

No s*x until the last book - the author is a practicing Mormon and abstinence is a big plot device in the story. And even when it appears, absolutely nothing graphic.
