Nips- Nice answer. But I think it will be better for the Sharks if they play the Wings in the playoffs. Because he knows the Red Wings, so he will know their weaknesses and will (hopefully) exploit them.

  1. SJ doesn't have the right players for the detroit system.  It will depend on if he tries to force the puck possession on them.  When campbell leaves, all they'll have left to carry the puck is thornton.  The rest are mostly grinder types.

  2. They could have done a lot worse. At least they made a move. But "stick-in-the-mud" me thinks that this could/should have waited another year or two.

Nowadays, its difficult to discern whether a move like this is undertaken due to genuine concern for winning, or a genuine concern to assuage the fans.

  3. Honestly

I think he would make a great asst coach but I rather see John T.  be the head coach at San Jose.

San Jose needs a tough as nails coach who can bring chemistry, something honestly I haven't seen with a SJ team since that big upset they had in the 90's vs Detroit.

  4. I'll take him!

You know how much i wanted Pat Burns, but I'll gladly take McLellan.  I didn't want Quennville, I didn't want Torts, and I didn't want DeBoer!  Once again, Doug Wilson has pulled it off and brought in the BEST for the Sharks!  We should also be expecting the Campbell signing soon!

Yahoo should redo the rankings and move SJ to #1 now!

  5. hopefully it will all work out ;)

  6. You should be happy....maybe he'll tell San Jose about all the plays the Red Wings do and how the play and maybe he can make San Jose become a contender for the cup (I don't believe so because I still think there chokers).

  7. Excellent choice for San Jose! He will know how to use the talent thats in San Jose! And I think this helps the chances that you could get Stuart back also. His wife still lives there and will be familiar with  the coach. Keeping Campbell and adding Stuart would shore up the defense Dramatically.

The only thing that scares me for you, is that you might want to avoid facing the WINGS in the playoffs. He is the student and its hard for a student to beat the teacher (Babcock) in a 7 game series.

Be HAPPY! He is a proven winner ready to take the next step of leading that franchise to where they havent been before. His positive attitude and extensive training from his previous assistant coaching jobs will bode well for the Sharks.

  8. I'm not sure anyone knows if he's the best candidate but I love seeing a guy get a chance. Obviously he's been doing something right over the years now it's time to find out if that carries over to the NHL. You're always taking a chance a guy that hasn't coached before but I'm sure they did their homework and feel that the odds are in their favour.

I hope he does well because like I said, I love seeing a guy get a chance.

  9. Wow. I think he will do well.....hate to lose him from Detroit, but understand he would rather be a head coach over being an assistant.........It may take him a coupla years to get em in line....

  10. Probably a good choice.  Then again, I said that about Dave Lewis.
