  1. call your nearest vet ASAP

  2. some dogs can metabolize a small amount of chocolate, but if he seems sick, take him to the vet and they may be able to help, depending on how long ago he ate it.

  3. How much was given to your dog? What kind of dog was it? Most likely, if you don't give it to him daily and it wasn't like it ate an entire chocolate fountain it should be fine. Smaller dogs are probably more affected by it but still, it shouldn't be too bad. Also, if your dog is affected by it, it won't just drop dead. It will start to act sick, so if your dog does be sure to take it to the vet. Make sure he/she drinks plenty of water also. Good luck!

  4. If it was recent(20-30mins), give 2 tablespoons(for about a 60lb dog) of hydrogen peroxcide every 5 minutes until he throws it up.

  5. yes it is a very bad thing to give a dog chocolate but with only like a couple bites he wont die. just DEF don't give it regularly.

  6. my dogs have had chocolate before and there still here just watch your dog and make sure it doesn't happen again but if it a big bit then maybe you should fone your vet

  7. ok if a dog just had a l**k of chocolate it doesnt mean hes goin to die. it depends on the weight of the dog and how much he ate. if ur really worried, take him to thw vet.

  8. i've had 11 dogs and occasionally ALL of them have gotten into chocolate at some point and they were fine! Never even got sick. One time, my dog ate all the chocolate in my easter basket and she was completely fine! i don't think you have anything to worry about, but if your dog seems sick, take him to the vet.

  9. Take it easy.  Many dogs eat large amounts and do not even get sick.  The quantity of cocoa determines how toxic the chocolate.  A pound of Hershey's milk chocolate has less cocoa than 2 oz. of bakers chocolate.  And White chocolate is not chocolate at all.

  10. If it was just a little bit then  your dog will be fine

My dog has ate a little and shes fine.

but if it ate alot  rush it to the vet  .

sorry about your dog but im sure it

    will be fine.

  11. uhhh well my friend's dog at a entire LARGE bag orf mandm's and itwas and still is fining. Is your dog throwing up, diarrehea, acting sickly, laying around alot? if he is do call ur vet.

  12. As long as it is not much, it should be fine. If you want you can take him to the vet...

    Calm down please.

  13. Oh my god are you guys serious... Take a chill pill and relax.. It's chocolate!!! It will take an awful amount of chocolate to KILL a dog, your dog is going to be fine. Give it some water, sit down and Relax.

  14. Call your vet - if he is not available, call your nearest animal hospital, tell them what kind of chocolate & approx. how much he ate.  Size & weight of your dog..  Do It Now....

  15. How much did he eat?

What kind of breed do you have?

If he's size of a Yorkie and ate it all, then don't wait for answers, go to the vet NOW!

If he's larger and ate just a bit, he will be OK. He may vomit...

  16. The truth is chocolate contains theobromine that is toxic to dogs in sufficient quantities. This is a xanthine compound in the same family of caffeine, and theophylline.

The good news is that it takes, on average, a fairly large amount of theobromine 100-150 mg/kg to cause a toxic reaction. Although there are variables to consider like the individual sensitivity, animal size and chocolate concentration.

    On average,

Milk chocolate contains 44 mg of theobromine per oz.

    Semisweet chocolate contains 150mg/oz.

    Baker's chocolate 390mg/oz.

Using a dose of 100 mg/kg as the toxic dose it comes out roughly as:

1 ounce per 1 pound of body weight for Milk chocolate

1 ounce per 3 pounds of body weight for Semisweet chocolate

1 ounce per 9 pounds of body weight for Baker's chocolate.

So, for example, 2 oz. of Baker's chocolate can cause great risk to an 15 lb. dog. Yet, 2 oz. of Milk chocolate usually will only cause digestive problems.

Xanthines affect the nervous system, cardiovascular system and peripheral nerves. It has a diuretic effect as well. Clinical signs:

    Hyper excitability

    Hyper irritability

    Increased heart rate

    Restlessness

    Increased urination

    Muscle tremors

    Vomiting

    Diarrhea

There is no specific antidote for this poisoning. And the half life of the toxin is 17.5 hours in dogs. Induce vomiting in the first 1-2 hours if the quantity is unknown. Administering activated charcoal may inhibit absorption of the toxin. An anticonvulsant might be indicated if neurological signs are present and needs to be controlled. Oxygen therapy, intravenous medications, and fluids might be needed to protect the heart.

Milk chocolate will often cause diarrhea 12-24 hours after ingestion. This should be treated symptomatically (fluids, etc..) to prevent dehydration.

If you suspect your pet has ingested chocolate contact your Vet immediately! They can help you determine the the proper treatment for your pet.

  17. Nah... He may get a belly ache though. Dogs shouldn't eat chocolate, but once one of mine ate a whole box of chocolate covered mint patties. She had a lot of gas (and good breath!) but didn't die. Just watch him for any signs of discomfort or illness. If you see that call your vet. If you are really worried I'd call them anyway - for peace of mind.

  18. I don't think its really THAT bad. My dog ate chocolate once and he's fine, but I don't know, I guess you should call a vet?

  19. It deppends on how much he ate, one chunk wont kill him. I not sure how much will but if it was allot, take him too the vet straight away, like NOW!

  20. That's an emergency take him to the vet.
