Oh my gosh! Please help me! My Mini Rex just starting losing his coat 4 days before county fair! What do I do?

Question

My black mini rex Ozzy just started losing his coat right before county fair!! He started out just losing a little, and now it is coming out in chunks!!!!! HELP!! He is shedding, I know. But what do I do??? Do I shed him? He has a big patch of short coat on his back!!! The rest is long!!! A mini rex needs a nice coat!!!! HELP! HELP!

He is an indoor bunny, if that makes a difference.

The more you groom him, the faster his coat will come in.

You can also try putting a conditioning mix of rolled oats and black oil sunflower seeds over his pellets every night. This will help condition his coat and will hopefuly coax the new one in faster.

There really isn't much else you can do- molting is a natural process that seems to ONLY happen a week before the biggest show of the year! lol Everyone who shows rabbits experiences the same thing, so it's no big deal.

maybe you should cut his fur

to the length it falls out

so it wiill look natural!

There's no real way to stop a shed, unfortunately. You can help him finish it faster by brushing him a lot to get rid of the old fur. You can try and enjoy sitting with him for a few hours a day until the show petting and grooming him :)

The best thing that I would do is take him to the vet, and ask what you should do. Maybe they can help you in some way :) And they will probably give your bunny treatment. It depends on when  the state fair is!
