Oh no! the artic will be gone soon..so what?!?

so the news reports yet again, that the real thick important ice is getting less and the arctic could be ice free by 2013...i say - big whoop! how does this affect anything? they say the sun won't be able to reflect off the ice back into space, and?! yes I'm ignorant, i admit it! please educate me! thank you.

you should motivate yourself!if we do bad things,does things will come back to us eventually in the end.try to love the nature.they give us oxygens.don't pollute.don't smoke.try not to be selfish and rely on other people.

basically it goes like this...

ice caps melt... sea levels rise which causes: ocean-side cities to be submerged, and also all the cold water can affect the flows of the oceans, which can stop the flows so cool water never gets warm and vice versa.  This messes with sea life.    Not to mention all the more indirect effects such as the ocean becoming more acidic, and eco-systems being thrown out of whack.

Personally I think you're mixing global catastrophies here.  A missing arctic would be one of the last things to happen, it would have melted a lot whilst everything else went Pete Tong.

Carbon Dioxide (in the air) build up created by virtually everything is creating a hole that affects the ability for the Earth to cool itself and this is part of the global warming theory which will have your arctic running away.

Don't freak - just investigate for yourself and change your habits.

Well it would take a while to rid the world of all the ice. Also, if all the ice were gone, then a lot of the freshwater that comes from it will not be there and many wildlife would die because they can not get water, this includes us humans. We already have a problem getting all humans in the world water and it may not affect you right now but eventually it will. Still, it would take such a long time.

when the ice is gone from the water this will have tremendous effects on the cold and warm water currents ,(all water currents are interrelated ) and climates will be affected on all coastal areas.

Marine life will also have many changes especially on microscopic levels,some species may become extinct and other invasive ,(they are not always good ones .like the red tide that killed all the fish)

Not only the arctic ice will be gone(this will not affect sea levels) ,much land bound ice will also follow (this is the ice that will raise sea levels)

Apart from that 75% of all potable water in the world was locked in this ice ,which then will be lost into the seas
