Ohio State Buckeyes humiliate Duke Blue Devils 85-63: NCAA Basketball Recap
Basketball is a funny game.
Duke Blue Devils, the team that grabbed the Maui Invitational title just six days ago and was still in a celebration mode received a rude awakening after it was hammered ruthlessly by Ohio State Buckeyes 85-63 in what was a completely
one side affair.
It was a forgettable night for men in blue and whatever the reasons were, they looked completely offbeat and failed to even challenge the opponents. Ohio dominated the game right from the word go and never at any instance allowed
the Devils to come back in the game.
Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski was shocked with the dismal display by his team in the court today, but was bold enough to accept his team got humiliated. He added
"Sometimes you just get your butt kicked,"
It was a road game for Duke and not only were they made to forget their title win by the Buckeyes, but the fans also played their part to perfection in magnifying the humiliation by caroling “overrated” in the last few minutes
when the visitors were trailing behind 20 odd points.
Jared Sullinger led the hosts with 21 points on 8 for 14 from the arc and 8 rebounds. He was supported outstandingly well by all the power players in the team such as William Buford, who accumulated 20 and Deshaun Thomas and Aaron
Craft, who pounded 18 and 17 respectively.
Austin Rivers was monumental for Duke yet again and paced them with 22 points. Mason Plumlee also contributed 16 points; however no other player managed to produce an impressive tally.
Ohio started the proceedings with an 11-0 burst. However, Devils were up to the challenge and immediately responded with an aggressive 12-2 spurt, led by Austin and Plumlee, to make it 13-12.
Austin and Plumlee continued the attack for next minutes but unfortunately, no other player from the side managed to find baskets. On the other hand, Buckeyes mounted a ferocious onslaught and the lead reached double digits 28-17
when Deshaun nailed in a jumper. There was no stopping the Buckeyes after that and by the end of the first half, they increased the advantage to 19 points, 28-47.
The next half turned out to be an exact replica of first one. The Buckeyes started with a three and with time, it started getting embarrassing for Devils as the lead mounted 23 points 43-66 with 8 minutes remaining.
The Blue Devils failed to bring the deficit down from 20s throughout the stanza and in the end lost with a massive margin.
