If a police car is leading/ and or following an oversized load with it's lights on, do you have to pull over to the side of the road?

How about if you are on the opposite side of the road?

  1. No, you don't need to pull over unless there is not room on the road and it's one of those small rural roads.

  2. I have never seen a police vehicle leading or following an oversize-loaded vehicle...Usually, the oversize vehicle has its own point and drag vehicles under flashing amber lights with signs mounted saying "oversize load" or something similar.

In this case, it seems as if the oversize was either unsafe or without escort vehicles and the police were making sure the load was removed from traffic...I'm just guessing here...Check with the local cop shop and see what their take is.

Unless the oversize is taking up the whole road, you do not have to pull over...The big load is limited in speed and maneuverability...Exercise extreme caution when passing in either direction.

  3. Yes and as to the other side Yes as well unless the road has some type of divider, then you would not.

  4. Unless the cop motions you over just keep driving. Applies to interstates too...if the cop doesn't want you passing the load they will block the highway so no one can pass.
