Ohio State President weighs in on BCS

Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee has let his opinion become public in regards to the Boise State Broncos and the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs (TCU) making the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) title game.

The President believes that due to the ease of the schedules for these teams, they should not receive invitations to play in the most sought-after game in college football.

"I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president that it's like murderer's row every week for these schools.  We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor.  We play very fine schools on any given day.  So I think until
a university runs through that gauntlet that there's some reason to believe that they not be the best teams to [be] in the big ballgame," Gee said to espn.go.com.

After the season began, it became clear just how easy TCU and Boise State’s schedules are.

TCU will have played only two ranked teams this season with the first one coming in week one against Oregon State. Oregon State's no. 24 ranking for week one was a pre-season ranking because they are not a top 25 team, and it has shown throughout their season.

Utah is the other ranked team that TCU will play, and they were ranked fifth when this game took place.  TCU massacred Utah 47-7, which certainly leads a lot of critics to believe that Utah was given way too much credit, and maybe too much has been given to
an untested TCU.

Boise State’s schedule is much of the same, playing unranked schools except for their week-one battle against Virginia Tech, week three against Oregon State and week 13 against Nevada.  For Boise State, having a schedule with Wyoming, Toledo, Louisiana Tech
and San Jose State is not a test but merely warm-ups to the bigger games in their schedule.

Ohio State’s schedule, in comparison to both, includes games against Miami (Florida), Illinois, Indiana, ranked Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, Penn State, ranked Iowa and Michigan. It will be seen that the opposition level for the Buckeyes games compared to
those of the others is like night and day.
