Ohio State University, University of California to play Mountain Pacific Sports Federation final
The much-awaited final of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament is scheduled to take place tonight.
After the surprising results of the Final Four matches played earlier this week, the two teams that have qualified to have a go at the prestigious championship title are the Ohio State University as well as the University of California, Santa Barbara.
The other two teams that were part of the Final Four of the MPSF were the University of Southern California and the University of Penn State. USC was handed out a defeat in four sets by UC, Santa Barbara. The dismissal of the number one ranked volleyball
team came as a disappointment to many of the Trojans fans both at the match or back home. The Trojans were the favourites of the tournament and their premature departure is being felt heartily. Penn State too was held to be the better team but the Buckeyes
were able to shake their opponents and seal the deal on the Final Four.
For the two lucky teams that have ensured their seat to the finals that is going to take place at Rec Hall, it will be the first time for either team to get the National Collegiate Athletic Association champions title.
If the performance statistics of both the teams are compared, than Ohio State holds a better record as compared to UC Santa Barbara. The number of times that Ohio State has been able to earn themselves a victory in this season so far amount to be 25. They
have accomplished the wins at an impressively low cost of six losses in all.
The two teams that have now made it to the MPSF final have been the underdogs in the semi finals. As a result, the sort of match that will take place between the two may well display a different set of strategy and tactics under taken by both Ohio State
as well as UC Santa Barbara.
Ohio State is entering the final match as the number third ranked team. In all the seven number of times that Ohio State has competed against Penn State, they have not been able to scrap a win. Other than that, the last time that Ohio State made an appearance
in the national finals was in 1988.
UC Santa Barbara have had relatively less wins than their rivals as they have tallied victories that equal to the amount of 18. These wins have been accomplished after having under taken a high number of losses which have registered to be 14.
“We had our highs and our lows,” UCSB senior Scott Slaughter said. “But we figured as long as we keep going at it, eventually something is going to click, and it will pay off in the end.”
