Ohio State University defeats University of Penn State in Final Four – Volleyball news
Ohio State University defeated University of Penn State by 3-1 in the Final Four of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament on Thursday
Rec Hall was host to the Final Four match of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament that was played between the Ohio State University as well as the University of Penn State. Neither of the teams have ever made it to the championship match but
after the deciding match between the two teams that was played on Thursday, the Buckeyes get  a chance to grab the title of champions.
Interestingly, the other semi final that was played between the number one ranked University of Southern California and the number four ranked University of California, Santa Barbara was also won by the same score as that between the Nittany Lions and the
Buckeyes. Ohio State was able to defeat the Buckeyes, securing a win for themselves at 3-1 in front of a cheering crowd of 3,761.
By the time that Ohio State had made the final point and were screaming their throats sore after grabbing a chance at the national championship after a period of 11 years, the scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 18-25, 24-26, 25-22 and 25-23.
With their recent win, the Buckeyes have been able to tally a total of 25 victories in this season so far. They have been able to accomplish these impressive wins after having under gone losses that amount to be six so far. As opposed to the performance
statistics of the Buckeyes, the record of the Nittany Lions falls pale. The total number of times that the Lions have been able to seal the deal amount to be 24. They have earned themselves the honour after having suffering losses that equal the figure of
seven.
The Ohio State came into the semis fully equipped to put a great show. They were phenomenal in terms of defense as well as blocking. The combination of these two things made it very hard for the Nittany Lions to get points.
In comparison, Penn State was not doing a good job of giving a challenge to their opponents. In the first set of the match, Nittany Lions registered a total of 11 hitting errors. Not only that, they were also out blocked by the Buckeyes by 6-1.
After his team lost the crucial match, Mark Pavilk, the coach of the Nittany Lions made the following comments, “Our unforced errors killed us tonight, put us in a hole. The thing that I’m going to take away from this is how many times we were down and we
kept clawing back and clawing back, and we’d tie it back up, and either Ohio State would make a very nice play or we’d hit a ball out of bounds and all of a sudden we’d be down by one or two points again.”
