Ohio State defeats Princeton University men’s volleyball team by 3-2 on Friday
Ohio State competed against the Princeton University men’s volleyball team in a thrilling match on Friday.
It was after a long time that the Buckeyes were playing any match at home and they were looking forward to give their local fans some reason to cheer. By the time the match had reached its closure, the court was erupting with loud cheers of celebration because
the Buckeyes had handed out a defeat to Princeton in a match that had been very competitive.
The first two sets of the match went the way of Ohio State as they were able to easily over power Princeton. However, once Princeton got used to playing in their opponent’s home ground, they responded with an equally brilliant display of skill and took the
next two sets.
Raising the level of excitement of every one present on the scene, the match went on to a deciding fifth set. To the disappointment of Princeton, Ohio State was able to seal the deal by claiming the final set of the game. The scoreboard summarised the match
by displaying the following final set scores: 25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 22-25 and 15-9.
Perhaps it was playing against the raised odds at their opponent’s home ground, but Princeton could not quite come into form in the first set of the match. It was not a difficult task for Ohio State to gain dominance of the court and take the lead early
on. Once they had the lead, the Buckeyes kept it with themselves until the end of the first set at 25-17.
The second set of the match unfolded the same way as the first. Princeton was unable to rally together and put up a good fight against Ohio State. As a result, the Buckeyes also dominated the second set of the match.
Both the attack and the defence of Ohio State was outperforming Princeton and it showed the way the Buckeyes were scoring points. Consequently, the second set of the game was also bagged by Ohio State at 25-18.
With Princeton at a two set deficit dealt out to them decisively, Ohio State was all prepared to end the match early by making a clean sweep over Princeton.
However, Princeton had other plans. They were able to come back a changed team in the third set of the match which they secured as their own at 25-22. A surprised Ohio State team tried to take the fourth set but Princeton extended the match to a fifth one
by winning the fourth set at 25-22 as well.
Finally, Ohio State was able to turn things around as they claimed the final set of the match at 15-9.
“Princeton played a pesky game of volleyball,” OSU coach Pete Hanson said. “We had some older guys and fifth-year seniors to fall back on. Ultimately we were stronger at the end.”
