Ohio State men’s volleyball team defeats Loyola-Chicago by 3-1 on Saturday
The Ohio State men’s volleyball team has been having a good time with the game in this season so far.
The last match that they played was an important one and brought them much joy. The Buckeyes once again showed a tremendous display of skill and handed out a defeat to Loyola-Chicago. The match that took place between the two competitive teams went on for
four long and thrilling sets. However, at the end of the day, it was the Buckeyes that were able to top the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association tournament.
The win that the Buckeyes have been able to achieve has two-fold meaning for the team. Not only did they win the championship title of the MIVA, they have also qualified to be a part of the Final Four of the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament.
By the time that the Buckeyes were celebrating their dual achievement and Loyola-Chicago was heading out of the courts with heads hung low, the scoreboard read as 22-25, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-17.
With their recent win, the Buckeyes have improved the overall number of wins in this season to a figure of 24. They have been able to bag these wins at an impressively low cost of suffering only six defeats.
If the MIVA record of the Buckeyes is viewed, it also features an equally commendable record. The Buckeyes have had a total number of 11 wins in the MIVA. The number of times that they have undergone a defeat in the conference play amount to be only one.
The first set of the match started off with both the teams competing hard to take dominance. As a result, the initial part of the set saw both the teams struggle in a tug of war with each other. As the match reached its middle stages, the lead stayed with
neither team for a long period of time. However, Loyola put on a spurt of speed in the end that led them to win the initial set of the game at 25-22.
After the loss of the first set, the Buckeyes were given a wakeup call. They were able to step up their game and rally together to give Loyola a serious challenge. Not only were the Buckeyes able to pressurise Loyola, they were able to win the second set
of the game in a pretty smooth fashion. The score at which the Buckeyes captured the second set was 25-20.
After the win that the Buckeyes was able to pull off, they started the third set of the game with the same enthusiasm. The momentum took them to win the third as well as the fourth sets of the match at 25-16 and 25-17 respectively.
“Our experience is huge,” redshirt senior Kevin Heine said. “There's no team out there with as much experience playing.”
