Ohio State’s Ross Homan out with injury
Ohio State Buckeyes linebacker Ross Homan is likely to be out for a couple of weeks after being diagnosed with a foot infection.
Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel said that Homan suffered the injury during the team’s loss to the Wisconsin Badgers on 16 October.
Ohio State has based much of their success on defence this season, but has been struggling with injuries recently and was exposed by an explosive Wisconsin running game in week seven. Luckily for the Buckeyes they have a relatively easy match-up against
the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday 23 October and then face-off against the 1-6 Minnesota Golden Gophers on 30 October. The club will have until 20 November before they have to play a ranked team in the Iowa Hawkeyes.
In addition to Homan the club has also lost star defensive player and linebacker/safety Christian Bryant, who is currently being treated in hospital for cellulitis, which is said to be a common bacterial infection, but needs to be treated or it can become
serious.
Tressel said that they thought they had the infection under control, but it was clear this week he would need treatment.
“He had an infection last week and we thought we had it under control and he played a little bit in the game and then he had a not very good reaction to it on the plane ride back,” said the head coach. “It doesn’t look like he’ll be out of [hospital] until
late this week and [we] just want to make sure that we get that calmed down.”
Bryant replaced Tyler Moeller after the former starter was ruled out for the season with a torn pectoral.
Homan will be placed by Jon Newsome in the Buckeyes game against Purdue, while Bryant will be relieved by both Aaron Gant and Nate Oliver.
