Ohio State’s Tyler Moeller out for rest of season
Ohio State linebacker Tyler Moeller will miss the rest of the season after having to undergo surgery for a torn pectoral muscle.
An MRI on Tuesday revealed the tear, which was sustained in the first quarter of the Buckeyes’ win over Illinois over the weekend.
Moeller was one of the Buckeyes’ most important players on defence, as he was able to play both linebacker and safety. The fact that Ohio State often chooses to go with a nickel defensive package means Moeller’s speed and ability to hit are integral to their
success.
The youngster has struggled with injury trouble for the past two seasons. Last year he was forced to miss the entire season after he sustained a serious head injury, after he was assaulted in a Florida bar.
Moeller has decided to petition the NCAA to allow him to play another season with the Buckeyes, because of his injury problems. If the NCAA approves his petition he will be able to join Ohio State for the 2011 season, making it his sixth year with the club.
Ohio State has been outstanding so far in the 2010 season, going undefeated in five games. On defence the university has been highly successful, only allowing over 20 points in one game this season. The club’s prowess on defence is well represented by their
rank of 11th in the nation in points-against.
Nevertheless, the Buckeyes’ schedule gets more difficult as they have only played one conference game and therefore still have match-ups against #20 Wisconsin, Penn State, #15 Iowa and #18 Michigan this season.
Before his injury Moeller managed to record 20 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles, a sack and an interception. He goes out to injury while leading the team in both tackles for a loss and forced fumbles.
