Ohio Virtual Academy with K12 Curriculum?

Has anyone used this as a supplement to public school or homeschooling with their child? I am interested in the idea of homeschooling, however I like the idea of having to be accountable to the public school system, which means I would know for sure that my daughter would be learning at an appropriate level. Any thoughts?

  1. OHDELA is the worst school to send your child. If I could only speak to everyone and tell them how OHDELA is for profit. They could care less if your child is educated or not. They have people running the school who are not educated themselves so why would you send your child to this school. I wish I had never sent my son here and I wish I would have listened to other people. If you want an education, dont go to OHDELA. If you want a free computer with internet and you dont have to go to school and you want to fail then go to OHDELA. And what happened to the PTO? This was the best thing they had and of course when they have something good they end it.

  2. I currently have two children in the program and it is wonderful! The teachers have been very helpful. You view your child's progress and report cards online. I have found it to be a great program for children with and without learning disabilities. I have two children as I have already stated and one has learning disability and one does not. I love being able to home school my children with the backup support of teachers. Yes, the parents are responsible for grading papers and it does require alot of work and patience but that goes for any home schooling program..Good Luck!

  3. Ohio Connections Academy is great. Ohio Virtual Academy didn't work for me. I was in middle school with K12 and my mom was my teacher even though they said they had teachers that would help me, they never called, and no one ever grades your papers.  Your mom does it all.  When my mom went to find out about transferring to another school, OHVA didn't help get transcripts or anything.  They lied about Ohio Connections Academy and told us they used Calvert.  They don't. K12 books don't allign with other schools, so it was really hard transferring to another school.  I didn't know how to get good grades ( I didn't have a report card for 2 years) and I had to review a bunch of stuff and fill in blanks of things I missed when I started at a new school.  Ohio Connections Academy is like a real school, but online.  They have helped me so much, never make me feel stupid or anything.  I am filling out college applications now and I know I can do this!

  4. hello, I am a parent of 8 children and we use ohdela.  They are great to work with and good with the kids.  Ohdela takes a very hands on approach to working with the children and work with them no matter what the pace. They offer some great field trip opportunities and provide everything you need and then some. You should look into it. http://www.ohdela.com

  5. I would like to introduce another option. OHDELA, The Ohio Distance and Electronic Learning Academy. We have been with them for a number of years and they are great. Their teachers are amazing and they provide everything you need and then some. They give you a loaner computer, printer/scanner/fax machine, and provide reimbursement for internet even. They offer a myChoice account which allow you to supplement your education however you choose whether thru field trips, lessons like dance or art, karate, books, etc. They also are one of the only online schools that have an active PTO, National Honor Society and Clubs such as ski club. You can learn more about them by visiting them online at http://www.ohdela.com where they offer an online information session three days a week or you can call them and get more information at 1.800.493.8680
