When Uncle Sam invaded Iraq they couldn’t wait to show their self-righteous indignation. Can we expect the same now that Putin has ignored all UN protocols?

  1. No, partly for these reasons:

    1. We (UK & America) are not sending OUR troops there.

    2. We are not spending billions of pounds/dollars there.

    3. It all happened so fast and we didn't get a media build up to it.

    4. We wouldn't really have that much influence anyway - we can't exactly vote in Russian elections!

    5. The war in Iraq involved America.  We (the Brits) speak the same language as America and are suffused by their TV, movies, music, politics and culture - the special relationship and all that.  Therefore, we take a closer interest in the actions of America than we do in the actions of Russia.

    6. It is not OUR politicians, who some of us voted for, who are directly responsible for this.

    7. It is quite possible that if you did start protesting in this country you would get harassed and somewhat "shafted" by the police and security forces!

Incidentally, it probably suits the purposes of Russia that there is all this ethnic fighting going on in such a strategic, economically important part of the world.  The Ruskies have been getting involved in this region for around 15 years now.  Does anyone know how many times they tried to assassinate Edvard Shevardnadze (former prime minister)?

I'm not too impressed by the violence towards ethnic minorities WITHIN Russia and the recently engendered ultra nationalism either!  Don't forget Chechnya either!

  2. I suppose you will get your wish.

As far as Putin is concerned he will be stopped soon. There is a price on his head. He tends to love wars where his brave troops can kill unarmed civilians. The hallmark of international cowards and terrorists.

As far as the war is concerned there aren't any 'Western' nations that have the moral integrity to say anything seeing as they are illegally in Iraq.

  3. Wow. That's a stunning argument.

  4. I'm not too good with politics. I just know they have a lot of oil and a scary amount of power.

  5. You support separatists in Tibet and Kosovo, why is it wrong to support South Ossetia?

Georgia killed more than 2 000 civilians and made 30 000 refuges.

    Iraq did nothing to you/

P.S. I wait for tumbs down.

  6. Why would the masses protest on our streets in indignation of the Russian invasion of Ossetia when we need to deal with the inanity and criminality of our two invasions and threats to invade others?

That really makes no sense.  To go to a neighbours backyard and clean up a mess while ours is a filthy trash dump is just too ridiculous.

Nevertheless, I hope these hostilities end soon.  Too many civilians are dying once again.

I think Putin should have gone to the UN but you can be assured that the US would veto any action that may have been taken.  Also, Russians were dying at the time by Georgian forces and something had to be done quickly.

So far this is not at all like the illegal invasion of Iraq.  Iraq was based upon a preponderance of lies.

  7. No.  The KGB and now the FSB has agents in the West who have organized protests against America since the 1960s.  Ever wonder why the protestors always said US nukes in Europe destabilized the cold war while Soviet nukes in Eastern Europe didn't?  The Russians were behind the protests.  They're still doing it today.  Those agents won't protest their own country's actions.

  8. No, the American liberals are ignorant when it comes to world affairs, they can't help it, they were born that way.

  9. Protests are an awful waste of time.Nobody takes a blind bit of notice anyway. The Americans were misled into a war with Iraq. Now they can't get out and they have a ruined economy.

The Russians are flexing their muscles. So perhaps this is the preamble for a nuclear war. I hope not, but the signs are ominous.

If, that is to be the fate of humanity, that it should perish in a nuclear holocaust, then I honestly believe this world would be a better place without us. Humans have had their time on this planet.

  10. Yes we can expect to see huge numbers of people protesting in the streets here as soon as Fox News tells all their devoted viewers that it is the State of Georgia in this country.

  11. Only a very small minority of the UK public would engage in a protest most sit behind computer screens acting tough....It's times like this when we should have a spine and do something not ridicule others for doing so...

I will never forgive Bush for his illegal war with Iraq and i sincerly hope he keeps his war mongering neck out of Russia's affairs.......

  12. No they won't protest Russians invading Georgia.

What I think should be done is simple.

Since it is obvious that the Russians are looking to provoke a nuclear exchange, I think the West should give them one.

It has been coming for a long time. They should just go ahead with it and wreak total destruction on Russia with every nuclear bomb they have.

Will it kill us all? Maybe. But you won't know till you try, will you?

And so what if it kills all human life on this planet. It will be a better place without humans.

  13. Thank you Siralan for giving me one last chance.

No, there will be no protests on our streets and probably not on any Russian streets either. They will be as quiet as CND under a Labour Government.

  14. only when Atlanta comes under siege.

  15. No, because Russia is reacting to Georgian rocketry killing some of their troops.  They've obviously been looking for a pretext to give Georgia a bloody nose, but the Georgians started the shooting so they have to take the consequences.

  16. Na, they are not fashionable enough........all the open toed sandal brigade have gone to unfurl banners in China, yet another conflict they know sod all about.

I suppose it all depends on the size of the bandwagon and who is on it allready.  Where is that Cat impersonator Galloway now?

  17. I don't think the Russians would give a d**n if hippies in America are protesting.

  18. Nope.

  19. Nah Russians and Georgians are White, Liberal heartstring are only tugged when its little brown babies

  20. Georgia acted the most provocatively first.. all under US guidance.. while the Olympics started to distract everyone.. and its over oil.. again..
