Neo-con is an oxymoron.

Neo means new, conservative means together we maintain.  You can't maintain something that is new.  If you don't believe me go to a new car dealership and demand to see the record of maintenance performed on a new car.

Since it is impossible to have something that is both new and maintained your question makes no sense.

Which, interestingly enough, is the state your political ideology is in.

I'm hoping that they become extinct as a breed as evolution moves in another direction.

John d: The reason they are neo-cons is because they choose to keep calling themselves Conservative, but during the late 70s adopted and embraced economics based on the free-market (which was never a conservative principle) and went about wholesale change. Which makes it a new approach, and the oxymoron is their own making because they refuse to shed the label of conservatism, even though they conserve only certain things: like fundamental religion and property rights.

If you're going to talk political philosophy, at least know some.
