  1. Don't use the oil based as it doesn't penetrate deep enough. Home Depot has a water based redwood stain in the paint department that will work excellent for this.  Now it has to be applied over cured new unpainted or treated concrete.  How do I know this?  A laborer knocked over a can on a walkway and I suggested that they use it to repair the accident rather then go through the hassel and expese of replacing the patio.  It worked and looked great and I polished it in to where it looked like the high dollar stained and polished concrete floors you see in supermarkets, mall stores and restaurants.
