Oil change question, 2005 Ninja 250....?

I drained the oil, changed the filter, put in the 2 quarts of oil that the book says. But I don't see any oil in the little window, it should be up near the 2nd line. I started the bike and let it run a couple of minutes but still didn't see any oil. Do I need to add more? Does it just need to circulate more? Help?! THANKS!

  1. I believe it's very important to have the bike level and on level ground, not running when you check the window. If the manual calls for two quarts you should run it for a minute or two - shut it off then check (have someone help you) - check, make sure the bike is level, and your not on any type of a slope in other words another set of eyes.

  2. Sit on the bike and hold it level like you were riding it.Look down at the window and check. If it still doesn't show in the window.Add small amounts of oil until it shows halfway in the window. The bike needs to be level to check this way.

  3. Put more it. My bet is the book shows the amount the engine holds, not the extra needed to fill the new filter too.
