Oil companies don't make money out of petrol?

they keep saying they don't make their huge profits from the sale of petrol. it that's so, wouldn't be good of them, in terms of PR mainly, to take the price down so they don't make any profit, but cover operating costs.

they keep saying the profits from petrol are very small so could they live without them at all?

it would stop 90% of critism from the public of oil companies.

what do you think?

  1. It's our government (UK) who get all the cash from petrol sales.I believe that the oil companies charge a certain amount, then the Tax Man grabs an absolute fortune..I'm not very good with politics but know that petrol is almost a neccessity to us and the TaxMan is guaruanteed a huge profit from it- Greedy Bugger!!!!

  2. Why on earth should any company give away any of its profits ? Profit is not a dirty word.It makes the world go around and it is not immoral per se.It in spite of what you might read or hear on the news or wherever it takes a a lot of sustained effort ingenuity and innovation

As to just covering operating costs - you can only run a not-for-profit enterprise if you are part of the public sector. So -no.I am not against public sector at all but it needs to be recognised it can only exist on the basis of taxes which come in large part from corporate profits i.e business where people decide rather than are told where to spend their money (or give it away to someone else to decide). The public sector just gets its money. It has to persuade a h**l of a lot less people than any business ever does.

By the way if BP is too dear why not try any of the supermarkets for petrol ?

  3. yeah they make it from bread and milk

  4. and I've just had a lovely weekend break on the moon with Elvis as the pool barman.

  5. They make loads of money - remember the mine, distribute it and then sell it in their own garages - they make money every step of the way
