Oil fields?

When crude oil is taken out of the ground what happens to place were oil was present, say for example when we pour water out of a mug, the mug becomes empty, so when take petroleum products out of the ground what happens to the place, wont that place be empty like mug without water?

  1. Umm, no?  The place is virtually unchanged, it's just taking oil out of the ground, the place doesn't rely on it to survive.  

    You're not sucking out the planet's life or whatever you're thinking by taking oil.
