  3. When two liquids separate themselves into layers, like the oil and water do,  the two liquids are immiscible (incapable of mixing or attaining homogeneity.)that's why some creatures  can swim around in icy cold water with no ill effects (their coats are very oily).

  4. Ask this question again in biology to get a thourough answer. I failed biology but we did do this and it really explained it well. Pity it didn't come up on the exam
