When I write question, I like to post an answer so that I can research the views of others.

My Answer is Yes - Each time oil prices increase, it affects not only the retail trade but transport and manufacturing costs, which will soon create unemployment in Europe.

Speeding up production of the Electric Car would quickly reduce demand for oil.

The initial standard production Electric car could be 50% Battery power and 50% petrol or diesel. All vehicles with an engine capacity greater than 1600 cc could be taken off the road and more people encouraged to carry passengers in their vehicles when travelling to their place of employment.

This means, if three cars were used on a rotor basis, carrying just three passengers each week. Fuel costs for each car would be reduce by 66% i.e. if it is costing you £30 per week for fuel at present, with a three car rotor system, it would ony cost you £30 every three weeks.

  1. Gas price high ?

    copy, paste, pass

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY =

gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and =

    MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce =

    their

prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have =

to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally =

millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! =20

    =20

Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll =

explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at =

    least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least =

ten more (300 x10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message =

reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE =

    MILLION consumers.

If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends =

each, Then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED =

    MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!

(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you =

have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just

aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out =

to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people =

could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days !!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did =

    you!

Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest =

that we not buy from EXX ON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE =

    $2.00

RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

    Keep it going

  2. Electric cars are just inefficient coal powered cars until more clean electricity comes on the grid.

  3. Who is "we"??

Are "we" manufacturers?  If so, then "we" should build cars that sell since "we" are in the business of selling cars.  If "we" think we'll sell more electric cars than gas ones, then it is time.

Or, are "we" the government, as in "we the people"?  If so, then "we" need to stay out of the way of the manufacturers and let them decide.

  4. There are no real electric cars available, and unless battery technology improves, there won't be.  The Tesla and Chevy Volt are still quite theoretical at this point, at least as true production vehicles.  There aren't any batteries that can long stand the stresses of high-performance vehicle duty.

But electric buses and trucks powered from overhead trolleys can certainly work; they've been around for a hundred years and would take the pressure off fuel supplies.

Arbitrary removal of any previously-legal vehicle from US roads would be contrary to US law and tradition and cause more trouble than it would be worth.

  5. OIL IS NOT BECOMING A PROBLEM,  RESEARC YOUR STUFF

THE DEMOCRATS ARE STRAINING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE BY NOT LETTING THE OIL COMPANIES DRILL IN THE USA, WHICH WOULD DEFINETLY LOWER GAS PRICES.

THERE ARE BILLIONS OF BARRELLS OF OIL IN THE USA.

  6. Electric cars production is cannot be mass produced

    Reasons Why

    1) Battery consumes too much space and very bulky. it is also not eco friendly when disposing it.

    2) The Efficiency and source of energy is also derivied from power plant. some power plant used energy too as coal. and many countries are still dependent too it.

    3) Who will Volonteer For mass production ? No one wants to risk their investment if it will not return their vested investments in their future

The solution, Retrofitting all existing vehicles with modified engine that  runs on Joe Cell.

  7. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I am salivating over one of those Tesla Roadsters. I'm hoping they put out something a little less flashy, but I would **really** like an electric car.

I have about two years left of college, and if everything goes right I'll be living comfortably with a good salary afterwards. I have vowed, as soon as humanly possible, I'm going to ditch my gas car and get an electric car. I don't even care how expensive or economic it is. I hate being subjected to the whims of oil companies and these greedy oil traders. (I like capitalism in general... but there's clearly some abuse going on here.)

The biggest argument I heard against electric cars is they get their power from polluting-producing power plants... However, not all power plants are polluting, and at least it's keeping the pollution out of the cities.

I saw a PBS documentary called "Car of the Future: Engineering for the Environment" about electric cars featuring the "Car Talk" guys ... a radio show we get in the States. They informed me that electric cars are MUCH more efficient than gas engines. More energy from the  electricity is used to actually move the car. (Gas engines have ridiculously bad efficiency ... I don't remember the figures, so I won't try to quote it. But the electric guitar is astronomically more efficient... obviously because less of the energy is converted to heat.)

So yes! I want to see some electric car action!!!!!!!!! ASAP!!

  8. Electrics are certainly more efficient, and can ultimately be powered from multiple sources of energy.  Unfortunately, while the battery technologies have improved, the initial cost has not.

Of course, the biggest problem is that (personal) transportation use only accounts for about 20% of all oil use.  Another 30% is used for commercial transportation and industry.  About 30% is used for heating, and about 20% is used as raw materials for consumer goods.

Just from this, it would seem better to ween industry off of oil, ship goods more efficiently, better insulate our homes, and find non-petroleum sources for raw materials.

  9. Yes, we should speed it up as much as possible as one solution to address rising oil prices, decreasing oil production, global warming, air quality, etc.

Fortunately the technology is developing rapidly.  In July the first affordable highway speed EV is set to come out - the Green Vehicles Triac.

And several more similar EVs are set to go into production in the next year or two.

  10. GM seems to be dragging feet in reguards to this car. as for electrics, once in full production prices will come down. ( maybe ). Subaru, Mitsubishi, Hyundai and others are working to bring electrics to the market. as for the Big Three, don't hold your breath. It won't happen anytime soon. check out the following sites.

  11. Electric cars already seem to be in production. But the really good ones are so expensive....

the tesla roadster is my dream car.

It's 100% electric and absolutely amazing.

    But it's 100000 bucks!

    That's £50860!!!!

  12. General Motors is spending billions of $ on development of the Chevy Volt.  I am discouraged because the first hint from a GM executive has been that it will be in the $45,000 price range for a basic sedan.  That is not a car for the masses.

  13. I agree, the electric car needs to go on line A.S.A.P., and in fact it has already been successfully done (check out the movie: "Who Killed the Electric Car?").

Rising fuel costs are pushing along rapid advances in geo-thermal, solar, wind and other renewable energy source, electric generation technology. Economically and ecologically speaking, developing massive utilities, in the near future,  that generate electric energy from renewable energy sources, to move our goods and power our factories, etc., makes the most sense to me.

I suspect that the power mongers who are in control of the petroleum industry don't really want to embrace this new source of wealth unless they can somehow control it...

I would bet that "we" will see a rapid advance of this "electric" technology if enough of the present energy "Barons" finally agree as to how they are going to control all the money to be made off the new technology.  Unfortunately for the rest of us, we will most likely have to wait on the deliberations of these elitist groups, unless some person or group comes forth with the money and the where-with-all, willing to champion electric car development and production.

  14. Yes..they should've started along time ago..electric cars have been around since like the early 1900 right?..i think its all because of money...that's why allot of  car companies and like oil companies like shell and valero don't really do much i think..cuz then everyone would have free fuel at home (if u had solar panels)

  15. The oil corporations are the biggest in the world they will fight tooth and nail against anything that might infringe upon their profits.

They don't care if we pay $4, $5, $6 or even $10 per gallon because it increases their bottom line.

Electric cars don't burn gasoline, so ask yourself why would they stand back and let them be mass produced, unless of course they could make lots of money out of them?

James Hardie would still be making and selling asbestos if they could. Corporations are for their shareholders and not you and me.

  16. Absolutely.

I think the Chevy Volt is the best solution I have seen so far.

The premise is that the first 40 miles is purely electric and then the gasoline/flexfuel engine kicks in and recharges the battery.

This idea makes the most sense because the average person doesn't travel over 40 miles per day, so it keeps you on electricity 90% of the time except for those times when you take trips out of town.

The Tesla of course is a great car with high top speeds, 200 mile range and a 3 hour recharge, but it is about $100K.

The electric hybrid like the Volt is the way to go, but we need electric vehicles in the $28,000 and under range.

  17. i totally agree alot of people dont realize that this is the biggest problem we have, gas prices are increasing so much it goes up like 5 cents a week right now, but the guy above me is right, unfortunately the production of electric cars is really expensive, they dont realize that if they mass produced them at a lower cost they will be gaining so much more money because of the huge need of non gas cars. they really need to find a way to make transportation give energy as much as it needs for example, have an electric motor that makes the wheels turn but then use the energy from the rotating wheels to give power back to the motor and vice versa this way we would only need to maintain our motor system once in a while with no need to refuel anything

  18. batteries are the issue, GM has the Volt ready....waiting on battery technology.

even with current technology there should have been more electric cars on the commuter roads 15-25 years ago.

problem is like the tesla-roadster...cost...recharge speed and range

most electrics only have a range of 80-125 miles, and take all night to recharge...my gas car can go 400 miles and with an under 5 minute "recharge," I'm off for another 400 miles.

I can live with the range and the recharge speed of electrics, I can't live with the cost.

(I still want an electric car)

  19. No the electric rates have doubled in the last two years. They will make everyone pay what they were paying for fuel. The oil companies are trying to buy power companies.
