Oil light keeps coming on what could be the problem?

I have a 97 buick park avenue and it keeps showing engine oil low on the dash. But the oil is full, i just took it to have an oil change. what could be the problem?

  1. the oil level sensor at the front of the oil pan could be bad, or have a loose connection(common problem on the 3.8 v6 is a bad sensor)


  2. It could quite possibly be that the battery is going dead. The same thing happened to my car and after a couple of days the battery went dead. Since i've replaced the battery i haven't had this problem.  

  3. I believe the Oil Light needs to be reset, the people that change the oil is supposed to reset the light and then the computer can start to count the miles to when you need another oil change.  

    Here's the answer I found online:

    Buick Terraza, 2005-06 Buick Park Avenue, 1997-99

    "When OIL LIGHT INDEX CHANGE OIL appears in the Driver Information Center, press and hold the RESET or TRIP RESET button while the oil life index is being displayed. After 5 seconds, the oil life will change to 100%."

  4. Sometimes the oil light has to be reset.
