Oil on arkansas stones

on arkansas stones not oilstones or wetstones but on arkansas stones can you use baby oil i know its weird if u can use baby oil can you on all the hardness degrees of arkansas stones

  1. Most experts don't recommend baby oil or cooking/vegetable oil on an arkansas stone because it will clog the pores and reduce the cutting ability of the stone.  Regular honing oil is not expensive


  2. You can use any light oil - it just keeps pores of the stone open so it stays abrasive.

    I use vegetable oil.  Every once and a while I'll wash the stone in dishwashing detergent to keep it like new.  I tend to like my kitchen knives razor sharp.
