Oil pressure 1998 gmc jimmy?

im changing my oil right now and i just put about 5 1/2 quarts in of 5w 30 and the oil pressure jumps up to about 60. does anyone know what the pressure should be when i first start it up and how much i should put into it. its about 80 degrees outside and the car has been run for two days.

  1. 60 is fine. It will go down some after the motor (and oil) warms up. 60psi wont hurt a thing


  2. Oil pressure is always high when an engine starts up from cold because of the viscosity of the oil. Once the oil reaches normal operating temperature your oil pressure should be in the vicinity of 35-45 lbs.

  3. 60 psi is normal for fresh oil, it should drop down in the high or mid 50's when u run it for a month or so
