Oil pressure gage went to nothing, but still have all oil in car - whats wrong?

while driving my oil pressure gauge went to nothing. however i have all the oil left in my car. i had my car towed to house and i have replaced the oil pressure switch- that didnt do anything. any suggestions

  1. Did you measure the oil pressure? Cause that's where you should of started.

    If you have pressure then it could be the gage or a wiring problem.

    If you don't have pressure then you have a problem with the internals of the engine.


  2. Again, check if it had 12V power to the sending unit in the first place, with a multimeter, or light and ground.

    If the oil is reading low, or the light is on, it means worn main bearings, between the caps and crankshaft, possibly rod bearings as well.  It's quite major, unless it is a bad oil pump assembly or pickup, by some off-chance.

    Add Lucas Oil Stabilizer, not a substitute to bring pressure back up.
