Oily fur!?!?

my dwarf hamster Frankie her fur is very shiny but in an oily way! is that normal is she sick ?? please help!

  1. No she is not sick, in their natural habitat, the desert, the hamster rolls around in the sand, this cleans their coat and prevents it from getting too oily / greasy and matted. You can provide a sand bath for her by using a heavy ceramic dish filled with Chinchilla sand (not the dust) the dust can cause respiratory and eye problems, and will just become clogged up in her coat.


  2. No! It's not! Don't worry! Dwarf hamsters have very special fur that can't get wet. You need chinchilla or critter SAND not dust (dust can make their respiratory system unfunction) when you buy it (it's about 3 bucks) just follow the directions! it's so fun to watch too! =D

  3. try giving her a bath.... maybe she gets wet check her water bottle/ bowl and see if theres a leak

  4. No it's not sick hamster fur get wet sometimes.Buy chinchila sand to make it less shiny.
