okay, so, I had photos in Yahoo photos, and, no photos. I got a warning and went to photos.yahoo.com and transferred them to the new thing, I think (there are 100% orig on my HDD so nothing lost), but why did I lose the pics there?

  1. Yahoo Photos closed in September 2007. Yahoo members were given notice several months prior and were given options to either move the images to another service (like Yahoo-owned Flickr) or download them from the site in a few ways. No images are accessible via that service anymore because it no longer exists.

If you transferred your images to Flickr, for a limited time they allowed PRO accounts - which allows users to store an unlimited number of images on that site. Yet that offer ended about 3 months later, and all those who did not upgrade (i.e. pay) were converted to "free" accounts. The free accounts have a limit of 200 images (the latest ones uploaded). Any images after that are inaccessible unless you upgrade.

If you transferred to another service besides Flickr, then they probably had a similar deal going on. You'd have to contact them or check their help pages for specific details.

Good thing you have the images stored elsewhere - i.e. your HDD.

UPDATE: Upon transfer to a new service images added to 360 blogs are broken because the links to those images are no longer valid. Also, the Flickr photostream doesn't work on most 360 pages anymore. The personal profile pic module has been buggy - images can appear and disappear there. Read about the changes in store for 360 at http://blog.360.yahoo.com/product_360 for more details. The 360 team blog is also accessible via the "Yahoo! 360 News" link in the upper right corner of your 360 space.
