basically i want a table that folds out from a wall. it's for my kitchen. a table that I can pull out or prop up or fold out or fold up out of the way. nothing big or extravagant. i guess the way i see it in my head is not really having legs but just folds out and is propped up securely by... something? sorry about the lack of knowledge in explaining it.. I don't know exactly how to describe it.

  1. Many ways to do this.   Decide what you want: Flip down from the wall or up.  The size of the table will determine or BE determined by that.  What you plan to use it for would determine materials and how best to support it.

A flip up table can only be as long as the height from the floor to the wall hinge.  A flip down table can be as long as the distance between the wall hinge and the ceiling ( or trim molding for appearance sake ).

You could use a hinged prop that goes from the center area of the table back to the lower wall as support, forming a triangle appearance, but all the stress would be trying to pull the table hinge from the wall.  I would only do this for small tables under 2 feet.

Fold down legs that reach the floor would be much sturdier and put less stress at the hinge end.

Example:  A breakfast nook table 3 feet wide (along the wall) and 2 feet deep could be a flip up, so it shows the good side and hides the prop/legs when folded, with angle hinged props that would fit into sockets mounted on the wall over the studs.  Angle hinging allows props that are longer that the depth of the table.

Kinda hard to explain without drawings.

  2. Go to a local cabinet shop and just ask them about the various hardware options; go at lunch time and then you may get mouthfuls of advice.
