  1. i would suggest putting in a nest box.. filled with some kinda of soft bedding material.. I did that and i got 4 babies :) and they are super cute.. but then we accidentally left it in and when we went to take it out their were 14 eggs.. but i had 2 pairs sharing one box so we wernt sure whos babies they were.. (they were all one family anyways so it doesnt matter i guess)  But i Good luck :) as for finding out the sexes.. im not quite sure...

  2. Short of a trip to the vet and a blood test, a male will usually have a darker area above their beak in their 'nose' area. In females, it's usually the same color as their beak. This is in mature birds tho.

A nest box will bring on the urge to mate if in fact you have a male and female. They won't willy nilly mate without a place to raise their young.

Same s*x birds with play/fight goof around with each other and generally get along.

The best time to bring in the nest box is on Valentines day. The way the sun sets at this time of year also helps the bird's brains to tell them to mate.

If you see no eggs by about 3 weeks after the introduction of the next box, you have a couple of dudes or a couple of chicks and no baby birds.

  3. First of all look at the color of the waxed area above the beak. If it is pinkish or brown you have a female. If the brownish crust is present this is a huge indicator she is wanting to breed. Males have a bluish / purple wax above their beak. The will go through 4 brreding seasons a year more then that can kill them. They will nest in the bottom of the cage if they are desperate enough to breed. But I suggest building a nest box for them. You can get plans online. They will lay eggs and set them for approx. 28 days before the hatch. Then comes the babies. I would check with a local vet or breeder and learn how to hand feed them just in case the parent won't as this requires some work and alot of it. But it can be very rewarding to have a clutch of babies and have them be hand tame little lovers.

  4. I don't know when they would mate, but I'm guessing sometime in spring. As for being sure of their gender, you should google avian DNA sexing. You can buy a kit where you take a sample of your bird's blood or feather and send it in. Then they'll send you a letter back telling you if your bird is male or female. I'm thinking about ordering one soon, (I'd like to mate my bird. ) Best of luck!!! :-)
