  1. Wow - having never played before, it's gonna be tough. Do you play other sports? That might help -

If you mean the tryout for next year, you might have a shot still - ask your school's coaches if they know anywhere that has open gym or community recreation leagues for you to get some experience in. Other that that, just play as much volleyball as you can find between now and the next tryout...

  2. be loud and practice

  3. just be a great hustler and digger. that way u can be a libero. or just a really good defense specialist

  4. practice. practice. practice.

but dont expect varsity your first year of high school volleyball.

its a long process to get up there with the big girls.

  5. be really good. I'm sorry I'm not trying to be rude but all of those varsity girls have a lot of practice. so you need to work twice as hard, be twice as motivated, & have 2x as much desire.

  6. well ur screwed if you have never played volleyball in your life

  7. As a volleyball coach, I have witnessed many girls tryout.

However, the girls who stand out the MOST are the ones who

    -call the ball every time

-be aggressive! dint be afraid to play aggressively

-be supportive of your other teamates, it shows that you are easy to work with

    -listen to the coach!

overall, i'd rather take a player who does those things above and is positive and easy to work with than someone who does not

  8. To be honest, it would be very hard for anyone to get into varsity team.

I guess it should not matter that much if you have never played volleyball before... why do you have to be on varsity.

  9. The most important things that you need to be able to do are dig, bump, and set. If you can do that you will be able to at least be a setter for the team.  A perfect set is crucial in the game of volleyball. I would suggest practicing setting and digging spikes. also, working on vertical leap is important so that eventually you can spike and block.

  10. I don't want to repeat anything other people have said so definitely listen to them but i am gonna go over some basics (i didn't completely read through all of theirs so i may repeat a little and i am gonna repeat on important things)

-PRACTICE A LOT- this is just about the most important thing someone could tell you and i know it is totally cliche but it is very very important you cannot stress this enough

-meetings/important stuff- basically anything the coach of the varsity holds you need to attend because that will let them know you are dedicated and interested. go no matter what it is.

-camps/clinics- you NEED to do as many of these as you can over the summer and going back to my last point if your high school holds one, definitely go to that one. camps are so important, fun, and they really help to improve your skill.

-lingo- make sure you know the terms in volleyball. many girls think they do because the know the words like "pass" "set" "bump" from PE (other terms are normally taught...) but there are A LOT of terms you should know so when girls are calling "SIDEOUT" (or other words) you know what they are talking about (can be easily found online)

-passing(bumping)/basics- you MUST know how to do all of the basics in volleyball very well passing especially because no matter what position you play you will probably have to pass the ball at least 1 time during the game. work very hard at the basics

-after basics.... choose position- know what position you want to play so you can work extra hard at those specific skills and master them so you can convince the coach that you are meant to play that position on varsity

-talk to other people- you are already off to a good start by asking about it on yahoo answers but also talk to other girls at your school who you know are gonna make varsity ask them what you should definitely know how to do and if you are kind of friends with some of them ask them to help you

-call the ball- this is very very very important coaches will see you if you are loud and calling the ball is just a good thing to do and coaches like it a lot for obvious reasons

-be coachable- if you are not as amazing as some girls but the coach thinks you are almost to that level and you are coachable they will put you on the team over someone who is just good but isnt going to be coachable

-you said you will work hard and be competitive which is good you will definitely need it best of luck!!!!!!!
