I don't really know what to look for when i am shopping for foods that are vegetarian friendly. For the past four years i have only been eating foods with eggs and milk in them. So now i feel i should go all the way and stop eating egg's and milk as well. So if any one knows what kinds of things i should be shopping for , please comment. Also is eating raman noddles with out the packets ok? i dont really know how its made.

  1. If you buy the ramen noodles and toss the packet, it still counts as a sale of an animal-based item, and it creates more demand for animal-based foods.  Dr. MacDougal has a line of vegan soup cups that are low in sodium, relatively low calorie, and quite tasty.  Your local Whole Foods or natural foods store should have them.  I have also seen vegan ramen-type soups at my local natural foods store.

You want to eat fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, and nuts.  If you have a question about an ingredient, probably best not to buy it.  Amy's Kitchen is a favorite among veg*ans, and her vegan items are clearly marked at the beginning of the ingredient list.  I also appreciate that she doesn't use artificial ingredients.  So Delicious is another great vegan-friendly company with vegan ice creams (Purely Decadent), vegan ice cream "treats," and fruit juice pops, to name a few.

Check out www.veganwolf.com for a list of ingredients to avoid.

  2. Maruchan Ramen Noodles.. Oriental Flavor are the only kind without dried meat.

You can always add your own spices though.

Things without milk are hard.  Rice milk is good...soy also.

But as far as pastries and such.. you'll have to shop at an alternative store for stuff like that.

I don't have a problem eating Cage Free eggs.  My whole buff is the horrible conditions they're kept in... not whether or not it's 'right' to eat them.

I'd recommend getting some vegetarian cook books... I've got tons.  You'll get used to converting a lot of meals to vegetarians/vegan friendly.

    good luck

you know what... I take that back.  I didn't realize there was a second list of ingredients.  There is beef extract in Oriental flavor.  i hang my head in shame.

  3. eating raman? raman noodles? like the ones with the chicken, shrimp, beef ect. kind. no. but with out the packets would b gross, that is what i think, but it is fine.=)

  4. There is a good book about being vegan called "Skinny *****."  Depending on your age, if may not be entirely appropriate since it uses a straightforward and kind of crude language to "get" to the reader.  The authors give many tips on what kinds of foods to avoid and what to look for.  They also have a sequel called "Skinny ***** in the Kitch" which gives good vegan recipes.  Hope that helps.

  5. Milk is a vegan thing, and I'm a vegetarian and I eat eggs. That depends on how you feel. (I dont consider them having been alive)

Some ramen noodles are O.K but it depends on what type and brand.

however if you arent eating Meat eggs and milk you might want to consider meals with a little oomph.

    :]

  6. It's not really OK, because even if you don't eat the packets, you still spent your $$ on an animal product.  Always a no-no.  They do make vegan versions of Ramen noodles though!!

  7. Do you mean "Top Ramen" noodles?  They have animal based broth, if I'm not mistaken.  And as if that weren't bad enough, the sodium content is otherworldly.  You'll have a stroke if you eat this stuff regularly!

At stores like Whole Foods Market, you can find vegetarian and low sodium noodle packages that are good replacements for ramen.

  8. You're getting some bad info on the Ramen.

Yes, to answer your question, it's fine without the flavor packet.

But you cannot include ANY flavor packets because they all contain "natural flavors" which don't have to be identified but are almost always egg or meat product.

These "natural flavors" are in a ton of processed foods so if anyone ignores that particular item, they are definitely eating egg/meat byproducts every day.  They're even in ketchup and tomato sauce.

  9. ramen is not ok.

look at the label one of the ingreadients is Beef juice

you can try boca burgers or morning star. in the freaser section they have things like 'meatless eggs' and sauches etc. <3Q

  10. You have to consider more than just whether something has a meat-based ingredient when going veg! For instance, it's unhealthy to eat refined flour, even if it is vegetarian! A person can eat unhealthily and yet be a vegetarian!

Most ramen noodles have transfats, which are a major no-no! They also are most likely gonna have bleached and enriched flour, instead of a whole grain. Better idea: buckweat (soba) noodles in a simple miso soup!

  11. I wouldn't cut eggs and milk out of your diet. That has been known to cause nutritional deficiencies. Raman noodles should be fine, but I'd check the ingredients to be sure.
