Alright, so how am I related to my grandma's sister's grand-daughter? I guess my great aunt's grand-daughter would be the same thing.. I've heard 3rd cousin, 2nd cousin once removed, twice removed. Does anyone TRULY KNOW for sure what it'd be?

  1. First cousins share the same grandparents, second cousins the same great grandparents and third cousins the same great great grandparents.

Where you are in a different generation you are said to be once or twice (or whatever) "removed". For example my fathers cousin (first cousin) is my cousin once removed - my great grandparents are his grandparents.

So to determine the relationship lok for the common ancestor. In this case your grandmother and her sister shared a mother - your great grandmother  and so are second cousins. Your children will be second cousins once removed to them and their children third cousins to your children.(they share the same great great grandmother).

  2. She would be your second cousin. You can view a kinship calculator here: http://www.rushings.info/images/kinships...

See how you would be related to other cousins and find out who a third cousin is, also find that the term "removed" means that you are of a different generation either up or down a generation is removed. Grandma's sisters granddaughter is the same generation as you.

It does not depend on which side of the family she is, kinships are the same for you mom's and dad's side.

  3. Ok to find out how you are related to someone you first have to find who your common ancestor is. In this case it would be your great grandmother or your great grandfather. Then you move down the generations. her grandmother on her side and your grandmother on your side would be sisters. then move down to your parent and her parent would be first cousins. Now you move down to you and her which would make you second cousins. there is actually a chart to help you figure it out.  here is alink to one of the charts http://www.iarelative.com/charts/

  4. you havent told if she is your maternal or paternal grand mother. It all dependa on this .pl be clear dear!
