my friend told me that her friend, who is puerto rican, does NOT like to flush toilet paper bc she thinks it's VERY bad for the toilet, enviroment, etc. (She's from puert rico) and that nobody from puerto rico likes to flush paper...they prefer to throw it away...(she's 50+) we are in our 30's and my friend, whos parents are from puerto rico, says she flushes but her parents didn't bc it's like an old time puerto rican thing...is this true or is she crazy>>??

  1. its true.  im puerto rican n i never flush the toilet paper.

u'll ruin the toilet!!!!  wats wrong wit u people?!

i dont think its just a puerto rican thing though, cuz i got other hispanic friends who dont flush their toilet paper either.

  2. I have never heard that flushing toilet paper causes plumbing problems. I've been doing it for over 70 years  without any trouble. Possibly there is something different about  Puerto Rican plumbing or toilet paper from ours.

  3. Most American toilets can take paper if there's not a huge wad of it. If you throw the paper in the wastebasket it will start to smell.

  4. I don't think that's only from Puerto Rico...

If you flush toliet paper, the toilet might get blocked up.

  5. After hearing this I've begun to do the same thing lol.

  6. I have never heard of this but my quess would be that the pipes may be smaller in her native country and they have plumbing problems allot there.

you could always talk to her about the plumbing in the states.

My mother-in-law was weird about too much paper going down because they built their own house in Hungary and she didn't want colored toilet paper used, only the rough brown kind. She thought it would plug up the pipes because it was fluffy. She isn't crazy, just not informed.

  7. Not just in Puerto Rico.

Some don't do it because they are greenies and use it for manure.

Just remember all cultures have their different little quirks.

I am a plumber and I have seen all sorts of different things like this from people all over the world.

Isn't it funny how fact can be stranger than fiction.

  8. Never heard of such a thing.  Sounds to me like the septic system doesn't have good drainage and that's why there are problems.  And, they throw it away???  In the garbage can in the bathroom??  Stinky poo maybe???
